Colour coding keys

I have a lot of keys for different items and I need to colour code them. I tried those rubber colour coded covers, but they just keep breaking. Also, only a couple of the keys are of the standard "house key" type and the sizes of the keys varies.

Is there anywhere that provides all sizes of keys in different colours or is there another solution I should consider?

I've heard of nail varnish, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution.

Id try the nail polish idea (I must have 40+ colours).

Otherwise my local locksmith has a big variety of colours and patterns.

Final suggestion, order a lot of dog tags off eBay and get labelling

You could try that sugru stuff, mouldable rubber? Comes in different covers, could be useful to wrap around keys. Sugru.com, and available at B and Q.

I'm thinking of using enamel paint (like that used by model makers), but have a number of questions:- a) is this a suitable option? Particularly as the keys will be on a keyring and in and out of my pocket (will paint stain clothes) b) will it work ok on metal? c) will it adhere suitably to the keys T

Have you asked a locksmith to see what they have in terms of coloured keys?
I wouldn't use nail varnish on metal keys, I don't think it will stick well, and end up inside the lock mechanism.
There are a huge variety of coloured keys available maybe try a bigger locksmith?
    See this for an example.

    Thanks CJ

I would not intend painting the actual key in it's entirety - just the key head (where the hole for the keyring is).

I'm aware that there are many different coloured keys available across the world, but finding a key cutting service with a good selection is very difficult. Hence my thoughts on paint.
