Thought this probably deserved its own thread. As the Dublin graded race shows, there probably aren't enough 10k runners out there to do something similar in Ireland, but we probably could manage a 5k event. I would imagine it's a big undertaking though.

Live streaming from 5 this evening: www.runjumpthrow.com/videos/14016

    Some background here:

A/Rtist formerly known as ecoli in action in the 'D' race at 6 pm.

Great idea for an event and nice to see someone try something a little different. Remember last year or the year before that the weather was horrific. Hope its better for them this evening.

Interesting to see how Kenneally and Travers get on along with Maria in the women's race.

Not sure how Kenneally will go, but I'd expect something big out of JT based on his road relays and 5k at varsities, possibly a sub 29

Has John raced over 10km much? Surprised to see his PB (29:59 I think).

I doubt it anyway. What did he run in intervarsities? 14:2x if I recall correctly. His PB is 14:15 and even as a strength based 1500m runner, He'd have to be well under 14 minutes to get anywhere near a 28:xx clocking. Probably talking about 13:45 shape or faster over 5000 to have any hope.

No think that 10k pb was from varsities which was a solo run and stopped to tie his lace

His 14:24 at varsities was a solo run and was a canter for him. Definitely in a 13:50 shape if he had the company to go with.

I'd say that 10k time was just stuck in to get into the 'A' race. Liam Brady's pb is listed as 30 and Mick Clohissey's as 29:58 - they could be right, just look a little suspicious!

John Travers ran sub 14 solo (more or less solo - certainly the guts of 2k was solo) for 5k at one of the Dublin gradeds a couple of years ago, closing in about 63. I'm pretty sure he could go a bit lower in the right race and with the right performance.

No idea what he'll actually run, but he's certainly capable of a very good time.

Mick's time of 29:58 is from Nationals last year. Not sure on Brady's time

The races are been recorded in the mean time and should be able to watch the full meet when they get the stream working.

That guy who won the B was a V40, with a 3:49 1500m in his past!

They were 14:21 through 5k, which would be pretty hot for John. Seems to be getting dropped now, hopefully he can regroup.

National Junior record for Kevin Mulcaire, 14.02 beating Pollock.

29:04 I got Travers crossing the line. Some run

Not far off sub 29 at all. The guy who won has a 13:31 5k pb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭Sacksian

Jumping the Gun said on twitter he was holding his stomach towards the end - I thought it looked he had a stitch at one point. He was off the track very sharpish at the end.

Any idea how Clohisey or Brady got on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭eldiva

Brandon Hargreaves with a 29:25 which is also a big pb

Yeah, I seen that just after he dropped off the back of the lead group at 6-7k on the top bend, thought it looked like a stitch too. Faded badly after that. Must of run a blistering last 2 laps to make up the ground he did.

    Almosta sub 29,good call.

Sure he's in serious form and the man himself said that was his goal. possibility he'll go 13:45/50 for 5k this summer
