So I may have a new job 10 miles away coming up so will lose the company car. Whats the cheapest form of transport within reason. I'm not cycling or getting a mobility scooter but outside of that anything goes. (Its a **** country road)

Taking tax, maintanence, fuel etc into account and below about 3k. I'm not pushed on the age, look etc. Was thinking about an 10-15 year old petrol but I still have tax/fuel etc. Was debating a scooter maybe.

A Honda CG125. Bullet-proof relability, 100+ MPG and so simple you couldn't break it with a 10lb. sledge.

Scooter, only in bad weather it would be no fun.. Frost/slush/snow would be a torture.

    Suzuki Jimny:

Grand for crappy roads with 4wd capability and still has modest running costs.

Not really a Motors issue but moved to Buying in case you decide on a car.

That jimmy looks ideal. Tax and running costs should be fairly light. Bike insurance might be steep as I'd just be starting out.

Punto, Panda or Micra 1Litre will be easy on mpg, insurance and tax.

If you like hospital food go with motorized two wheels in ROI
Two wheels scooter motorbikes are 20 times more likely to be in serious accidents says the RSA.
Probably best to stay with Asian cars . The one liter cars are cheap enough can get 40 to 50MPG depending on speeds ..

The only cheap transport in ROI is walking they can even fine you on push bikes for breaking the road rules easy to do in the rain .Waiting at red lights with rain bucketing down temptation to jump lights is there .

Normally I'd agree but if it's being used on crap country roads then non of them may endure it.
