Anyone who swapped vehicle temporarily on their policy - did you get Insurance cert for that?

If not, how can you prove that vehicle is insured if you are pulled over?

no you dont get a cert, you would need to get proof from your insurance that it had been transferred. An email showing that it had been transferred would be a good to request when doing the transfer.

I wonder though how much good such email would be abroad?

I got a new cert/disc from Aviva every time I swapped temporarily.

No because insurance companies typically don't issue a new cert unless you surrender the old one and for a temporary swap, most people don't bother.

Unless they're pulled over by the cops ...

If you ask them I'm sure they would issue a cert showing that you were covered for the days you were covered.

But Cinio you're talking about being stopped abroad, you will need to go to your insurance company with the old cert and disc and get them replaced. They may levy an 'administrative' charge for this.

On a side note. Check with your insurance company, don't automatically assume that you are covered to drive a temporary transferred car abroad. They may have restrictions.

Not for third party though, and that's all I need.

That's great info, as insurance in question is with Aviva.

OP - if u are renting car abroad then the Irish company won't swap car to foreign car for foreign use.

Temp Sunbs are normally for ur car getting serviced etc in Ireland

What's the scenario for temp car ? If u don't mind as give us your view

    It's not a rental car.
I have a car abroad. It's Irish registered and currently parked up (not used) (therefore no insurance on it).
That's why I need to temporarily transfer my own insurance to it, when I'll be there and use the car.

As u own the car the ins company may issue a cert, depending on how helpful staff is. Normally if u own the temp car though it might only be a full time transfer cover avail. Enjoy trip

Yep, I don't know what companies everyone else is on about. I temporarily swapped my insurance 3 times to a car I own, all online. I got a new disc every time I swapped over. No demand for the old disc, nothing. You'll be fine with Aviva.

    Apology-my English/I am a foreigner

If Irish or any other Insurabce company want to insure car in other EU country insurance company must to be registered in that country. It is not difficult technically and many big insurers are registered and cover cars abroad. (info from the Internet)
    So? ask your insurance provider.

No, no - you misunderstood me.
I want to insure Irish registered car with Irish registered company.
Fact that car is abroad, doesn't really matter.

Indeed I found aviva to be like that. They send new documents (cert and disc) every time something is amended in the policy - f.e. I rang them to update name on policy as there was spelling mistake - new dics and cert. I rang them to inform about some minor fact - new dics and cert.
Once I even just updated my email address in their online system - new disc and cert - obviously exactly same as previous one :)

But I wasn't sure if they actually issue new one for temporary car swap (amended online) as I heard here on boards, that most insurers don't.

I wonder though if they can send documents in advance.
F.e. if I want to change car from 15th day of the month, but let them know 10 days in advance, will I receive new cert before 15th? - because it would be great to get it before I go.
