Boca Juniors v River Plate stopped at half time

The match has been held up at the start of the second half as 4 River players have been sprayed with pepper spray as they were coming out of the tunnel for the second half.

The president of River Plate came onto the pitch and wanted his players to leave the field but they are still out there.

River edged the first half. There's orange marks on some of the River Plate players jerseys and some have red rashes on their chests and backs. Mad stuff.

Live on Setanta Ireland for anyone still up.

They just showed a boca fan spraying something into the inflatable tunnel as the River Plate players were coming out for the second half. A good few other fans are watching him with their jerseys up around their faces.

Will Downing says that Boca could be thrown out of the competition after this.

You might get it on a stream if you want to see it.

Looks like the match might be abandoned. Here's a video of the fan spraying something into the inflatable tunnel.

Officially abandoned. Amazing scenes. Be shocked if there isn't more trouble from the crowd now.

Match is abandoned. River Plate will probably go through as they are 1-0 up on aggregate. Ref wanted to play the second half but it didn't happen after they asked the doctors.

The two managers were international team mates with Argentina.

    It's finished for tonight.

    Crazy scenes allright

Also in Argentina ,Emanuel Ortega, a 21-year-old Argentine soccer player, died on Thursday of injuries he suffered during a match last month when he fell into a concrete wall located just feet from the playing field.
Argentina’s soccer federation (AFA), which called Ortega’s death a “tragedy,” put out a statement Thursday afternoon, announcing the suspension of all play this weekend to honor Ortega

They might have to extend the ban on fans in this fixture to the home team too now. Boca players lining up as if the second half would go ahead when they knew what happened.

Football really is in a bad state in so many countries -

Turkey is now a war zone. http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/may/13/violence-killing-turkish-football-fenerbahce-besiktas-galatasaray

I fully expect a few stories from the "nordic" summer leagues.

    Italy is ongoing,

France has its moments - such as http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/may/15/nice-claude-puel-attacked-supporters-training

Pathetic, the fan should be charged with assault, obviously these ultras are still running these clubs.

Turns out he already had a banning order at Boca from a while ago, he should never have been allowed there.

River have been awarded a 3-0 win, Boca are therefore thrown out and La Bombonera will not be allowed to host international games (So Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana) for 2 years.

I can see the latter be overturned though.
