    That's a great read, thanks for the link.

    I particularly liked the analogy linking altitude to boats on the ocean swell.

    It's a brilliant analogy that really aids understanding. I always assumed altitude was constant relative to sea level.

    I recognised some of the text, it's written by Mark Vanhoenacker who wrote Skyfaring. I haven't read it, but bought it recently as it was recommended by a friend.

    EDIT: Which is clearly stated under the last graphic. D'oh! :D
