unemployed and starting to work again

Hi all,

I have been in receipt of either jobseekers allowance or back to education allowance since 2008. I have finally completed my degree and secured a job. My current employer has requested a P45 ,but states only if applicable, does this apply to me?

Have you ever worked before? If you have, your last employer should have supplied you with a P45. If you don't have it, Social Welfare may still have a copy of it from when you signed on. Otherwise contact Revenue.

Yes, but the company I worked for closed down when the recession hit. I will get onto Revenue later. Thanks

Congrats on the job and degree!

You only supply a P45 to your new employer if the employment is within the same tax year as your previous employment. So in your case you will be unable to supply a P45.

Give revenue a call and get your certificate of tax credits, that will do in lieu of a P45
