King Sized Bed v 2 Singles

Am I right in thinking a true King Sized (European) is 6" longer than two singles, but the same width? Wikipedia seems to think a standard single is 75" and a King is 79".

Anyway wife and I are pretty big, both in excess of 6 foot - would we be better off with a one piece King Sized or is it better to have two singles for the separate mattresses. Without wanting to get too specific the wife has a habit of launching herself about three feet into the air to turn over with the obvious effect of waking me up, probably because I'm snoring.

The room we have is a little on the small side so even the 4" shorter would be good for space.

Any suggestions on where to buy etc.?

Thanks in advance for looking at this somewhat odd request for info!
