8100 class DART question.

    Just noticed this morning as 8101 passed by that is had metal frame along the top door level all the way around it. It's trailer counterpart 8301 does not have this or another other 8100 class unit that I can see.

    Anyone know what it is or why only on coach has this.

    I'm going to try can get shots of it next time I see it. I don't have a proper camera though only my phone.

    Its a gutter to catch water coming off the roof. The 81xx carry the pantograph and as a result get badly stained with carbon particles washed off the roof around the front of the unit, this mod should stop this.

    The Japanese units have this from the factory

    Got a better look at 8101 this morning at Connolly, bang on.
