I used to spend a lot more time at car insurance time when i had my more exotic motors, these days its a 2 litre diesel a5 sportback so generally its pretty easy to get a quick cheap quote.

But before i go ahead just wanted to check, who are people finding the best insurers at the moment in terms of cover and value?

Id like full ncb protection, no fees when i change the car (as i have a new car coming in the next few weeks probably post renewal) and breakdown assist etc

It's a lottery. They throw darts at a prices sheet, I'm convinced of it.

Put in the time and shop around.

its annoying every year 123 send out a renewal at 150 higher than the last year,

then i call them and they bring it back down

for that reason alone i would move

    Never mind this post, OP.

Anyway, each insurer will have a certain risk profile or area of business that they will welcome, and others they will flat out refuse. A quick, general example would be Liberty's acceptance of young drivers, whilst others will not consider a young driver. Same for certain car makes and models etc.

If you want to avoid unnecessary costs, I would stay away from 123.ie as they have built in fees for duplicate paperwork and temporary / permanent substitution of vehicles.

I would recommend going to a broker, who will have a panel of insurers at hand so they can push the risk across various companies and come back to you with a range of options. Best on the market (in my opinion) would be Allianz. Good solid policy, standard excess, additional benefits and breakdown assist etc. (I have no association with Allianz, by the way)

It always worth talking to a broker and when they are quoting simply ask the question "Who's claims service is the best" - any decent broker will know which way to advise, probably by reputation alone and from past experiences. Remember, the true value of your insurance will be realised when you have a claim - so make sure you are placed with an insurer who will remedy your claim(s) as quick and efficiently as possible.

The reason they do this is in the hope people are either lazy or not smart enough to take their business elsewhere.

Unfortunate and tedious as shopping around for insurance is there really isn't any short cut as prices are so tailored to the individual as well as the car. The only way to narrow this tedious task down is to ring a few brokers and let them put in some of the legwork for you.

    Why ignore it?
    It's true.

What's best for me won't be best for you etc

This year I found insuremyvan.ie the best for me.

The only true way of telling is calling around and compare like for like with regards to NCB protection and claims policy etc

Because they don't just throw darts at prices and release them. That's the point I was getting at. Of course shopping around should be encouraged.

Jesus I don't think the poster was trying to portray that as fact. It's a well known phrase used to describe insurance prices for years!

It was great contribution. I look forward to the next witty phrase.

    kceire is right though.

Every poster is this thread drives a different brand with a different size engine, lives in a different town and may range in age from 18 to 58.
This makes it impossible to say company A is best for everyone.

Even within the same company quotes will vary greatly on small factors.

OP, shop around and get at least 6 different online quotes. Then choose whatever you deem to be best value.
    Or use a broker.

Similar threads from the last few days/weeks, with suggestions
