Inexpensive Functional Laptop

Just another laptop ask, I’m afraid Mine recently gave up the ghost and I need to buy something quick. I’m not too versed on specs, so just a couple of things – primarily, it needs to be cheap! I don’t play games. I don’t require any spectacular graphics or unnecessary bloat. On the other hand, I don’t want a machine that can barely manage the basics. Effectively, all I will be using it for is

- Office (and only Word processing, really)
- Browsing (youtube etc)
- Watching movies
- Maybe listening to some music (speaker quality would be a plus)

That’s it really. I don’t need a webcam, touchscreen, DVD drive etc. A decent keyboard would be nice but unimportant. I do a lot of writing and this is what it will mostly be used for.

I plan on investing in a proper machine soon, I just need something to tide me over in the meantime.

Appreciate any advice.

I can highly recommend a Dell E6400, I have several. Very well built, decent sound. Here's one ending within the hour

Hi, didn't want to create a new thread to ask, but I'm also looking for a cheap laptop, mainly to use things like Word and was looking on ebay.

Seeing laptops for less than £50 including postage makes me wonder why or how they're so cheap? Sellers have good feedback and say they have warranties. Is there anything to be careful of?

The one in the link above is Windows Vista OS , which is fair enough for 75 STG as you should be able to upgrade to Win 7.

You wont get MS office as standard on these laptops though .

I know it's not exactly top of the range, but since I don't need it for anything more intense than office and/or browsing

Looking at the sellers previous feedback , his laptops sell for around 180stg , so he likely has a reserve on them .

have a look he has loads of stocks with the same laptops just different specs. quite cheap and can do most of your tasks

There's not much performance difference between the 6400 and 6410. I have both. Yes the 6410 is an i5, but the main plus is it has DDR3 RAM and probably a Win7 COA sticker, if that is of interest

Ended up with one that cost me £42 altogether plus Parcel Motel. will do the job
