NCT incorrect odometer reading

My mother just returned from her first NCT with a 2011 car.
The odometer in the car reads 20430km but the NCT cert has it as 80217 km.

How could this happen - is it not read from the computer?
    Will they fix it?

Human error most likely as it's entered on their system manually. Ask them to rectify it.

She's giving them a ring. She panicked and thought something was amiss. I reminded her she bought the car from new.

    According to the NCT handbook:

The NCT tester must record the odometer reading at the time
of the test where an odometer is fitted. When the test report
or pass statement is being presented to the owner or the
presenter of the vehicle, the NCT tester shall point out the
odometer reading. The owner or the presenter of the vehicle
must verify that the odometer reading is correct, and if not
shall immediately advise the NCT Tester as there will be no
opportunity to change the reading at a later stage.

I have been for many NCT tests, and have never had the tester 'point out the odometer reading'. They usually just ask for the reading when you are handing over the keys (and money) before the test.

I would contact them as soon as possible.

They've told her to bring it back next Monday to get it sorted.

Happened me a few weeks back, they entered mine in miles instead of KMs, I returned 2 mins later after spotting it in the car, they said that they couldnt fix it there and would need to send it to Head office in Dublin.

It took about 3 weeks to get sent back, they're a great bunch of boyos....

Ah crap. When I did the NCT on my car in March they missed a 0, so my recorded mileage on a 2002 car is 17018 instead of 107018. What are the implications of this? Is it something I should have changed? I'm likely going to own the car until it is end of life so selling it on won't be a concern

Same happened to me as with TiltedBrain, except I didn't notice for a few days. Took about 2 weeks to get sorted. You need to get back into the centre you tested at asap. Ask for the manager too, because in my case, the two idiots I dealt with first hadn't a clue what was going on and told me I needed to ring the head office.
