    From here:
Actor Harry Shearer, who has voiced several characters including Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner, Otto, Smithers, and more has reportedly quit the show after 26 years.

Shearer tweeted about leaving, quoting Simpsons writer and producer James L. Brooks' lawyer as saying the "show will go on, Harry will not be part of it."

Personally I'd agree with the sentiment in the article. If true it's hard to see how the show can go on with the loss of key secondary characters like these - unless they get in someone else to do those parts but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe The Simpsons has declined to the point where most long-time fans wouldn't care/notice anyway?

    Hopefully.

It really should have ending 10+ years ago but it was such a cash cow for all those involved it was never going to happen.

Oh, fingers crossed it's the beginning of the end.

    From the Guardian:
What this means is that we’re potentially waving goodbye to (in no particular order) Mr Burns, Ned Flanders, Kent Brockman, Dr Julius Hibbert, Scratchy, Lenny, Reverend Lovejoy, Otto, Kang the Extratrerrestrial, Dr Marvin Monroe, Dewey Largo, Police Officer Eddie, Radioactive Man, Principal Skinner, Waylon Smithers, Judge Roy Snyder, occasional-Maggie Simpson, Jebediah Springfield, Rainer Wolfcastle, Lion Tamer Ernst, Birchibald T Barlow, Jasper Beardly, State Controller Atkins, Student Benjamin, Marty from KBBL Radio, unspecified Happy Little Elf, Herman Mermann, Sanjay Nashaspeemepetlion, Elderly Barber, Reporter Dave Shutton and Dr J. Loren Pryor…

    They are re-casting him.

Doesn't matter. The show died a long time ago. It really doesn't matter what they do to it now.

I know that out there are more than 100 000 people that can imitate those voices, but is that legal? Can the actor sue them?

I'd seriously doubt it. Shearer voiced the characters, but he wouldn't own them so I don't think there'd be any grounds to sue on if he wanted to. And seeing as he left the show of his own volition, I don't think he would want to.

Well than they can easily replace the voices with voice actors and we will never notice the difference.

Simpsons fans will find this turn of events nothing short of excellent: Seven weeks after tweeting that he was exiting the animated comedy, EW has learned Harry Shearer—the voice of Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Smithers and a flurry of other memorable characters—has agreed to rejoin Fox’s forever-running animated comedy
Shearer has signed the same contract as did the other five primary voice actors—Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, and Hank Azaria—keeping the show’s original cast fully intact, EW has learned. These deals, which run for four seasons (including a network option for seasons 29 and 30), are estimated at more than $300,000 per episode. Fox recently renewed The Simpsons for a 27th and 28th season, which will bring its episode tally to 625.
