Orange Powertrain warning light - Fiesta 1.4 TDCi

As per the thread title, since Sunday evening the Orange Powertrain warning light has come on. Last /Tuesday night, it disappeared for the majority of my journey home. Yesterday, it was back again. Diving home later - and it disappeared again.

Had someone with a diagnostics tester look at it earlier in the week. He couldn't find a fault with it.

There is a noise from the car - it seems like it's coming from the back rather than the engine. I thought it was the exhaust but apparently, the exhaust is fine.

Any guess as to what might be at issue??

    DPF?

What sort of driving/mileage you do in this diesel engine?

    Doing over 20K miles/year. There's 235,000 KM on the clock. 90% of that is 40 miles to work/40 miles back - 5 days/week.

The pattern now is that it seems to come on for the first half hour of driving - and then it goes away. I start it the next morning, and same drill again - 30 minutes - and then it's gone again.

However, there's still that strange noise that seems to be coming from the back - all the while - regardless of whether engine management light is flashing or not.

Dont know what the noise in the back would be but if your light goes out after a while its most likely glow plugs gone.

Best of luck trying to get them out of the head if they are gone you might be better off leaving them where they are.

Thanks for your post Martin. I'm not well up on motors. So I have them option of not fixing them is it?

Well first thing you need to do is get a proper diagnostic done on it if that is your problem you will need to get someone who knows what they are at to try changing them.

A lot of the time they are tight in the head and wont come out so its either a case of leave them there and get used to the light being on or take the head off.
