NCT Question

    Hi all,

Just a quick question. I have an NCT coming up soon and I'm just wondering if I'm likely to fail it because of an indicator arrow that's not lighting up? The indicator itself is working fine but the little right arrow on the dashboard isn't. It does sorta light up but so faintly that you can only see it if its pitch black in the car.
Also if that would fail it, is it difficult/expensive to have fixed? Needless to say, I know nothing about cars!
    Thanks!

You would fall down on #3 below. I'm assuming that they want the driver to know which indicator (left or right) is active so simply hearing a clicking noise may not meet the requirement.

    Method of Testing

Switch on the direction indicators and check that:

    1. each indicator is working correctly and is clearly visible.
    2. each indicator is of the correct colour and securely mounted.
    3. there is a way for the driver to be readily aware from his seat that each direction indicator is functioning.

However ..... under failures it lists the following ....

Tell Tale (lights or audible indicator)

    12 Missing.
    13 Not working or faulty.

Note that it doesn't say lights and audible indicator so one of them may suffice.

    Put it through as is.
You may fail on it, or not.
You may fail on something else, or not.
If it fails on this item only it's a free visual retest, inconvenient but free.

To fix you probably need to remove the instrument cluster and remove the old bulb and replace. There may be something else that needs doing to but that the first step.
In order to answer further we need to know what model car you are talking about.

Thank you both for your replies. Its an 04 Seat Ibiza. I'm just a bit strapped for cash at the moment so if I can avoid paying to have it fixed just now I will.

If that's the case I'll just put it through and hope for the best!
