Would you recommend any good scenic beaches nearby Dublin? Especially on south Dublin side as we will be travelling from Waterford.
Or it could be in north Dublin if the beach is really famous and nice.

    Thanks

There's not really any decent beaches on the south side unfortunately.

The best beach is Portmarnock - northside - just stay on m50 takes exit for malahide.

Its a really long beach with a view of two islands ( irelands eye and Lambay island) and also the headland of howth.

Also you get to see the planes come in for Dublin Airport.

Afterwards go to Howth for Fish n' chips!

    Thanks everyone for the input.

Weather is gloomy today so we will go tomorrow. Portmarock it is then. Cheers

There's a beautiful beach at Killiney.

I like Rush especially in really good weather as it tends not to get crowded like the rest do.

Portmarnock is lovely but gets v overcrowded and also seems to stage the annual teenage fight club on sunny days.

I agree that the part of the Portmarnock beach nearest the village/waterfront can get busy on hot days. I'd advise to drive down the Golf links road - there's a car park after about 1km - the path leads down to the beach - always very quiet on that stretch.

Sandymount. You could walk all the way out to Poolbeg if you fancied too.

If you are taking the coast road from Waterford to Dublin you could go to Brittas Bay

    +1

If the tide is in there isn't much beach to walk on, if it's out there's miles and miles and miles of it! (Low water at 15.48 tomorrow) (Don't get cut off by the incoming tide though )

And the walk out to, and on, the Great South Wall is gorgeous.

thanks Heidi, looks like weather is risky tomorrow to try out Poolbeg lighthouse.
Will see Portmarnock and Brittas Bay most likely.

Shelly Banks next to Sandymount Strand

Could continue on through the Irishtown Nature Reserve and out to the Poolbeg Lighthouse. Watch the tide though :)

    Good morning,
Getting ready for Portmarnock beach. Can you suggest another beach or ocean view drive nearby that we could cover on our way back to Waterford. ?

Donabate isn't bad and go into the waterside hotel for bar food. Has a good mains menu. Deserts are overpriced.

You could even sit outside and eat while watching the sea.

Portmarnock Beach for the first, from around half way down or just east of the car park before Portmarnock Golf Club.

Second and third can be seen from my house!

    You're right! :D

Lucky you, you live in Howth.
