Foreign national question - what's the difference between higher level and further education? Are they both third level?

You essentially have three types of post-secondary education - further education, institutes of technology and universities.

FE is technically not third level, the distinction being the awards they can offer.

On the National Qualifications Framework, FE institutes offer courses up to Level 6 only, whereas IoTs and Universities offer qualifications from Level 6 up to Level 10.
