Just wondering, what are people's thoughts on the best fiction and non-fiction books of 2014?

No, but if you have any recommendations from 2015 I'd be interested?

The best recent releases I've read would be-

    Non- Fiction
    Moral Tribes by Joshua Greene
Philosopher and neuroscientist looks into how our brains work in moral situations and recommends a utilitarian approach to real-life moral problems

Thinking about it only makes it worse by David Mitchell (the TV one)
An anthology of Mitchell's columns. Funny but thought-provoking

The Art of asking by Amanda Palmer
Musician talks about what it means to be an artist in the digital age

The Sense of style by Steven Pinker.
a modern writing guide for students, academics, or any kind of writer.

I don't read much fiction but some good comics around now like-

Brian Micheal Bendis has gone overground and is with Marvel now. His work on the New Uncanny X-men, and Guardians of the Galaxy is the best mainstream comic writing around.
Also Greg Rucka's Lazarus series. It's slow but immersive, it will be interesting to see where he goes with it.
And the New Ms.Marvel, an american muslim dealing with being a teenager, a girl, a muslim, and developing superpowers, is fun as well as addressing serious issues.

Books I enjoyed that were published in 2014:

    - The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell
    - The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton
    - Wake by Anna Hope
    - Us by David Nicholls

They were all fantastic reads, and quite different in subject matter as well- I would recommend them all!
