This sort of thing should be increased automatically with inflation every year, I think.

Get everyone paying it first. Why should some have it handed to them? Or not at all?

Needs to be taken at source if they're going to do it properly.

It has not had an increase since 2008.

The quality of output has not increased either.

Are you serious. RTE have lost the rights to the premier league, GAA, and now won't be showing the rugby World Cup. They aren't showing the McGregor fight. The one good thing over the last few years was Love/hate and they aren't renewing that. I could go on...

The films they show are donkeys years old. Fact is RTE don't deserve the money they are getting already.

I have just worked out I have watched 30 minutes of RTE ( Eastenders and i could have watched it on bbc with no ads) and no TV3 in the last 9 days. I never listen to the radio If I don't pay for Sky then I don't get tv channels so I'd say as I'm paying twice already for channels/stations I'm not watching/listening to then no thanks it costs enough as it is.

Hell no! Have you ever seen the Late Late show? They should be paying us!

    Be honest,
You work for RTE and you are looking for a pay rise.

Not only should it not be increased, it should be abolished, 50% is repeats from bbc and ch4 which can be received free, the rest are cooking programs and idiots from some hotel over and over again...the rest is repeats of Gay bryne who doesn't seem to ever retire...

The only good thing bout RTE is its news and prime time but that is controlled and never really shows the full picture..

The arts don't make me laugh some is great and if I want to view it I have to pay for a ticket which Im fine with.

There is no tv license in America we are told we should be on level playing fields about just about everything else...so this we should as well.

Ask any group on the internet if they want to pay more for anything and the general consensus will always be "no, I'm not paying more". I'd bet most of the people who reply don't pay the licence anyway, be that they are evading it or their parents already pay for it.

That's incorrect. You do not have to pay Sky to receive FTA channels.

RTÉ lost Premier League rights because they couldn't afford it.

They continue to show GAA so I have no idea what you are on about. The games Sky show were on TV3 previously.

When did RTÉ last show a rugby world cup? They had Ireland games once but only because they had to be shown FTA and Setanta wasn't able to do that. TV3 bid for the World Cup rights this time around and won them.

They aren't showing the McGregor fight. How can they when BT already own the rights to show it live in this country? 3e will have delayed coverage.

They aren't renewing Love/Hate? Season 6 will be happening, just not in 2015.

The films are donkey years old? Do you want RTÉ to compete with Sky Movies for film rights? As they are at the moment, the films they show are no older than films shown on any other channel that isn't Sky Movies.

It is rather ironic that you expect RTÉ to do all of the above yet don't want to give them an increase in the television licence

It has not had an increase since 2008.

The quality of programming hasn't improved since 1974. So no.

TBH, it should be abolished. We pay enough in tax already. Having another arbitrary tax to fund sh1te is daft.

Very true. What I should have said I do not have FTA box or aerial and if I don't pay Sky then RTE/TV3 are not one of the channels available as FTA through the Sky box. I had two separate installers attempt to install FTA and due to location could not get a stable signal so it's not as if I have much of a choice but to pay.

Saorsat is available and carries RTÉ channels so you do have a FTA option for RTÉ and TG4 at least.

If the government bring in the Broadcasting Charge (which really is an internet tax for people who dont have a Tv but stream online). Rte would get more money.

IMO Rte over pay some of there famous names and they are not value for money.

They're not. It was scrapped a few months ago.

Which requires you to buy a Saorview box. If they changed it to a Saorview box license then I could not get one and not have to pay the damn charge.

Joe Duffy earns 300k a year which means to pay his salary 1875 people need to pay their license fee. He also works seven hours a week.

Tuned into Rté One last week. Teleshopping. There was a time they showed old movies at that time in the morning. If anything the license fee needs to be reduced or abolished.
