Service from main dealer vs local mechanic?

just looking for some advice. I bought a Kia ceed last year from Kia Liffey Valley. It has a full service history from Kia dealerships (UK and Ireland). I've just been quoted €279 for a full service (doesn't include any extras)! I felt this was a bit steep.

In the past I've always just gone to my local mechanic who wouldn't even charge a quarter of that amount for a basic service!

My question is, is it worth getting a service done from main dealers and having the official service stamp in the log book?

What exactly were you getting done for €279? "Full service" is a very broad term and without knowing what exactly was being done it's very hard to judge the price.

Bear in mind that the Kia service also includes for an inspection to maintain the warranty. One has to be carried out yearly for the extended warranty meaning it might be worth your while keeping to a dealer if you want to be covered.

It's in the small print of the warranty.

Believe me especially with Kia that a main dealer service is essential for the 7 year warranty.
We`ve had customers with cars serviced elsewhere and when it came to warranty claims they were flat out refused.
We`ve also had customers in their 7th year have engines / gearboxes replaced without question because they had a full history.

Get the stamp OP and keep that warranty intact. After the 7 years or 150k are up go where ever you like.

Thanks for the tips. I'd forgotten about the 7 yr warranty so yes it's probably best to get the service by a kia dealer. It's 2012 model.

Kia service parts are extremely expensive unfortunately so that would explain the high cost of the main dealer service.

Exactly. Even a cabin/pollen filter is nearly €50.

    Whats included in this service??

if thats a proper service as per the manual, it is possibly quite reasonable...

and whats your local offering? and whats his price?
