hi there attached is what we have in the house here for the immersion switch and the switches which controls the radiator valves, upstairs and downstairs.

last week the immersion switch was damaged and had to be replaced.I had thoughts i did this correctly. however the immersion swtich was put on last week and it started to heat up ALOT. the swtich was turned off, however the nuteral wire appears very black (bottom left of 1st image)

Would anyone be able to tell me how they should be wired.correctly!

This isn't really a diy job to be honest. You've connected the switch so wrong it's dangerous.
On the supply side you need to connect the Red to the live and the black to neutral.
With the other cable you need to connect the blue to neutral and put a loop between the live and the common. Then connect the black to terminal 1 and the brown to terminal 2.
Make to connect the earth to the relevant terminal too.

The photos are quite blurry so its hard to see for sure. Is it a dual immersion you have or a single one? Dual immersion you can heat bath or sink. Full cylinder or half cylinder.

Also it's an electrical question not a diy question so perhaps a mod might move it for you to the electric forum

    thanks for that
On the supply side you need to connect the Red to the live and the black to neutral. ok

With the other cable would this be the one from the immersion or to the rad switches? you need to connect the blue to neutral
would this be the live as above on the supply side, or bottom load side ?

put a loop between the live and the common.

the immersion goes in at the top of the immersion

Sorry only just noticed there are 2 white cables. I'm not really sure why the radiator valves are connected to the immersion switch. When do you want them to be switched on?

I believe its just taking the power, its the cable at the top left of the switch box. (green in the PDF attachments image)

so the are on or off by a switch for each.

Ok. Do the radiator valves only need to be on when the immersion is on or do they need to be on all of the time?

they would need to be on all the time, as they are required when the house heating (oil) is on.

Ok. That's what I thought. You need to connect it to the supply side of the switch. Take the 3 core cable and connect the brown to the red of the supply cable put them in the live terminal. Connect the black and the blue to the neutral. On the load side put a loop from the common to the live. Then with the 4 core cable connect the blue to the neutral on the load side and connect the brown to terminal 1 and black to terminal 2.

    Hope that helps
