    Howdy.

I've just had a consultation with an orthodontist who recommended train tracks for 18-24 months. I inquired about incognito braces because I want the treatment to be as discreet as possible (I'm 30 and work in a professional environment) and he said he wouldn't do them in my case.

However, I got the feeling that he just didn't like them generally. Said he used them about 30 times in the past but doesn't often recommend them anymore. When pressed he agreed to do ceramic on top and train tracks on bottom, but that's as far as he would go.

Before I go ahead with anything I'd like to get a second opinion from an orthodontist who has a good track record with incognito braces.

    Any ideas in Dublin?

Not sure if this is of any use, but I also wanted incognito braces and my ortho convinced me to get ceramic top and metal bottoms. I'm late twenties and work in the health profession with clients every day so I understand where you're coming from. The ortho told me that incognito would cost double, but also that routine appointments like wire changes would take a fair bit longer. He also said the results aren't as good as normal braces (not sure if that's true or not, it seems mad to pay double for a compromised result). Good luck finding an incognito ortho though, can't make any suggestions as my ortho does do them, but seems to not rate them.

How are you finding the ceramic top / metal bottom? That's what I was offered but just not sure I could put up with it for two years.

I'll be totally honest, the ceramic ones are great, very discreet and can't really even see them in photos. the metal ones took a lot longer to get used to as they're quite sharp and sore and obviously less discreet, but because they're bottom teeth a lot of people have said they can't see them even when I'm talking as the metal parts are quite low down on my teeth. I'm happy enough with them!

I don't think I can get ceramic on the bottom - possibly due to my overbite.

I wonder would it be possible to get ceramic on top and lingual bottom, although I've never heard of that before. (my preference is lingual on both but might not be possible)

I'm the same, I wanted ceramic top and bottom and they said because of my over bite I couldn't get ceramic bottoms or they would chip my top teeth! So with ceramic top and metal bottom they aren't too bad, I'm a bit self conscious but I've been self conscious about my teeth for years so it's not much worse than normal!

Was ceramic top and lingual bottom ever offered?

I had ceramic on top and metal on bottom. I really wouldn't worry about how they look tbh. Many adults gets braces these days. And you just forget about how they look after a while! I put off getting them for years due to being worried about how they would look, but it's fine. The food getting stuck in them bothered me more.
