landscaping back garden

    Hi Folks,

We recently bought a mid terraced house and after renovating the inside , we're ready to tackle the outside.

Ideally I'd like to just clear the garden, dig up everything and then resow a garden with stepping stones up to the shed.

Problem being I dont want to spend an arm and a leg. So first question, is it possible to rent a digger and roughly how much would it cost? Second question is, how do you get it into the back garden of a mid-terraced house!?

I've already had the pleasure of digging a trench the length of the garden to put our washing machine/dryer and freezer out to the shed. So know that I couldn't handle digging up the whole garden by hand.

    All ideas/recommendations welcome!

    Cheers

plenty of hire places for mini diggers - you can pay up to 250 per day.
Some places will do a deal over a bank holiday weekend where you hire for Friday and return Tuesday for no extra cost.

For getting it through a mid terrace - lots of plywood on the floor or crane it in.

1.5-3t digger would suit depending on access 200-300 including driver 300 been absolutely top price.

Mini digger around me is 100 day (outside of dublin). You'll figure out the driving part yourself after an hour. Think a .75 tonne is 750mm wide before extending tracks.

Depends how big your garden is and whats there but personally I'd try dig by hand. Just flipping top few inches of topsoil for re-sowing isn't massively strenuous. Hire a rotavator and job done. If you have no rear access loading up diggers, protecting your doorframes/saddles/floors, learning how to use it etc. Its all time, hassle and money.

Mini Diggers are only as good as the Driver.. They will save the back filling a wheel barrow... 3 ton digger is better.. I have put mini diggers true the front window of houses. ( At the start of a build) :).. How bad is the garden..? You would be surprised at what a big rotavator could do.. As long as it wasn't full of rocks and roots...Or chance the hights of the garden (if possible) spray off, level off, and bring in top soil.
