Haven't received my log book

I bought a second hand car last month (on the 22nd) and I'm waiting on the vehicle registration cert.

I've emailed the contact details on the motor tax website (motortax@dttas.ie as on their contact us page) but it's gone to a black hole.

I need to get the car taxed and I want to make sure everythings in order. I know you can get a new cert by visiting a Garda station and paying money and applying for a replacement. But I'm not replacing. I'm waiting on it.

Has anybody got a reliable number that I can ring that will know what I'm talking about and be able to sort me out.

    Go to https://www.motortax.ie/
    Click Vehicle Transaction Enquiry
    Type in reg
Should tell you if vehicle changed hands recently

Note, this might not be updated immediately. Sometimes I have received logbook before the site was updated.
    Should be pretty accurate though.

Yeah I did that. The most recent cert was issued on 28/04/15. So I know the logbook was issued but I don't have it.

At least you know now it's transferred.

You could try ringing Shannon instead of mailing http://www.dttas.ie/corporate/english/contact-us They should be able to see when it was sent from Shannon.

OP, if the car has changed ownership to your name you can tax it online.
Request a PIN on motortax.ie and it will automatically generate one for you. You will then be able to tax the car online.
AFAIK the system won't give you a PIN unless your details match the name and address that are attached to the car, so if it's in your name you should be able to tax it.
Also if the VLC doesn't arrive soon you can simply fill in the form for a replacement.

But won't the log book be needed when the op goes to sell ?

I'm in a similar boat - brought a car in from UK last year, paid VRT, taxed it online but never received log book. Who should I speak to v

I rang Shannon like one of the posters suggested. They had posted it but it was returned. The address was misspelled. Give them a buzz.
If it's been a while their recording tells you which form to download and get witnessed by the guards.

I was going to start a thread concerning vehicle licensing cert, when I saw this thread.

I was going to ask, is there no quicker way to get the VLC after buying a car?

My query is in relation to getting newly purchased car NCT'd ASAP. I see there are a few available dates for the next week but VLC is required documentation for the NCT. Thanks.

They may or may ask for it at the NCT centre, if really depends on who is behind the countner. Even if they do ask and you don't have it they will still test the car but will not issue the pass cert until you return with the VRC.
