Obligation of identification in Ireland

Are there any requirements in Ireland to own or carry valid ID documents for EU citizens?

Long story short. My ID card has expired and it takes up to three months for me to get a new one. Now I'm worried that I'm being fined or something.

Thanks in advance for all helpful replies!

    Thanks very much! I'm relieved!
I was sure if there was a requirement in place I would be asked to produce ID while waiting for my new one ;)
    Thanks again!

I have the usual documents to proof my identity. The issue is only that I don't want to carry my passport around with me.
In Germany you need to have ID on you in person. So if you're stopped by Police you need to have ID or you get fined. That's my only worry; that I'm out and about and being asked for ID which I don't have on me.

Thanks a lot! That would be perfectly fine.

Once you behave yourself you will never be asked for ID at random by a Garga, or anyone else. And even on the off change you are asked and don't have it you'll be fine - you will not be escorted home for your passport or anything of the sort. That's nonsense.

As long as you behave and don't be acting the idiot you're fine.
    Relax.

You must carry your licence when driving.

There is no requirement to carry ID but there are certain pieces of legislation that allow for Gardaí to demand name and address. If they are not satisfied with the name and address you give then you can be arrested for the purpose of identification.

You're not going to be fined for anything. You've nothing to stress about, you're grand.
This is Ireland , there are no SS like fellas demanding "papers" from people on every other street corner!!

There is no requirement that ID must be carried at all times.

If you have a GNIB card, one needs to carry it at all times.
