Welfare for couples

A friend of mine is considering moving in with her boyfriend, but she's concerned that she may lose her welfare entitlements. She is on the dole earning 188 euro per week. He is working 3 days a week at shop earning 210 per week plus 89 euro from welfare for the 2 days he does not work, so that's nearly 300 euro for him. If they move in together, that's 488 between them per week. Will she lose her allowance and will his entitlement be cut if they move in together? She phoned citizens information but she said she got more doubts than answers and she's not comfortable going to the welfare in case they think the two of then are already living together so she asked me to ask on boards.ie - can anybody shed light? Thanks

She will be entitled to €198 afaik. 342 per couple minus means of partner. 299-60=239*.6=144 means.

So she gets 198 and he still gets nearly 300, can't see it myself, thought the max per couple was 312?

The above calculation isnt clear at all.

Where is the 299 coming from?

I just phoned the Citizens Information Advice Bureau. This is the way they explained to me:

As a couple on jobseekers allowance, they are entitled to 312.80 per week, but because he is earning 70 euro per day on each of the 3 days he works = 210 per week, they deduct 90 euro as means, so what they would be getting as a couple is 222.80.

Seems simple enough now in so far as he is already being deducted 90 euro of his jobseekers. If the total they can earn as a couple is 312.80, then just deduct the 90 and get 222.80.

The lady over the phone said that because they will be assessed as a couple, it is not a case of how much she or he will lose in entitlements, but the two as a whole.

I'm sorry. My calculations were based on a couple with 1 child.

So what is the grand total in the pocket for the two of you?
