Is this free for Android like it is for Firefox. I see something about Filter subscription I'm not sure what that's all about.

I've tried most them, but found that only AdAway did the job properly.
Free but you need to be rooted.
Can't remember anything particular about Adblock Plus.

ABP comes up as the best on searches but google have banned it and you have to manually configure your wireless network proxy settings to get it to work now. I am at this stage with it on my phone but afraid to modify network settings if the thing isn't worth having any way.

AdBlock Plus is winner on PC but terrible on Android. Avoid it on Android. It randomly allows ad. And sometimes even though it is working ADs are not blocked AT ALL!
And this is not one off. It has happened several times.

If your phone is rooted then AdAway patches the host config file to block adservers, thats probably the cleanest way of blocking ads.
I have it set up and never have any issues or ads, in fact sometimes it can be a bit too good, can't click google sponsored links.

Its always going to be a bit messier on non rooted phones.
Saying that so long as the app isnt malicious its not going to do any harm setting it up. Changing your proxy settings back isn't too bad.
