Status of gay women pre-1993?

    As I understand it, the 1993 decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland related exclusively to gay men (it was 'sodomy' that was considered a crime).

    Can someone please explain, then, how lesbians were regarded under Irish law pre-1993? Were there any references to sex between two women?

    I believe it wasn't specifically illegal, although "gross indecency" might have been usable if there was a specific need felt to prosecute. There are (or were, its been some time since I checked) still potential issues relating to age of consent for certain acts as a result
