    Diabetes Ireland Clare presents
    Understanding food labels

Are you living with diabetes and struggling to understand what is in your food?

When you have diabetes, your diet is a vital part of your treatment plan so understanding what you are eating can be an invaluable weapon when fighting this condition. For this reason, the Clare Branch of Diabetes Ireland have decided to hold a public information night on ‘Understanding Food Labels’. The event will be held in The Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis, Co. Clare on Tuesday 19th May 2015 at 8pm. Pauline Dunne, Dietitian with Diabetes Ireland, will speak at the event.

At first glance, food labels are not always easy to understand. There is often confusion between the terms ‘carbohydrates’ and ‘sugars’ with most people only considering sugars to be important. However, both sugars and the amount of total carbohydrate need to be considered by people with diabetes when making food choices.

We hope that by attending this session people will learn to more easily interpret nutritional information and food labels, and ultimately better the dietary management of their diabetes” says Ms Dunne.

This meeting is free to attend and all are welcome. It is being organised by the Clare Diabetes Support groups who meet on a regular basis in Ennis. Anyone wishing to attend these Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes meet ups can Grainne on 087 641 5747 or email clarebranchdfi@gmail.com for more information.
