Hotel Recommendation Vienna

Hi, myself and a few friends are thinking of going to Vienna for a weekend in December for the Christmas markets and just to visit the city in general.

Can anybody give a good hotel recommendation - not too expensive, 60e each the most per night.

Was looking at lowcostholidays.ie and there seems to be some good package deals with flights and accommodation but I'm not sure what the hotels would be like and where they are located in relation to the city centre.

There's a place called Hostel Ruthensteiner which I've heard nothing but great things about. They have plenty of private rooms at very reasonable prices if you don't want to share with others.

Thanks, but think we would rather stay in a hotel; We are kind of gone past the hostel stage. Are hotels very expensive in Vienna??

€60 per person sharing will be a little tight for decent hotels close in to the centre. It's been a while since I've been in Vienna but I can't imagine it's got any cheaper in the intervening years.

The last time I stayed there we were in the Hotel Am Konzerthaus which we got a deal on. I think it would have been about €100/night for the two of us. It's nice enough and it's walking distance to pretty much everything. There are decent public transport options around it too. If you have some flexibility with dates you might be able to get under your €60/person/night limit. I did a sample booking and for a week in December you could get an average of €116/room/night if you paid up front and didn't include breakfast.

The time before that we were in a place in Leopoldstadt, somewhere along Heinestraße roughly half way between the Augarten and the Prater. Not ideal from a location point of view but it was definitely cheaper. I can't find the hotel now, so it may have disappeared.

It's €120 a room, we were in a double, don't know if they do twins. Very close to all the museums and markets.
