    Hi lads,

Looking for a bit of an upgrade from my 6 year old Dell 22 inch Monitor. Unfortunately I don't have a whole lot to play with money wise, about €250-300.

I was looking at this Samsung 27inch monitor for a while now but I cant seem to find it anywhere else bar Overclockers.co.uk (for a reasonable price, roughly €250).

I'm fairly undecided about 24inch vs 27inch although I like the actual idea of a larger screen.

I would prefer an IPS type panel rather than TN but I'm aware there are some high quality TN panels around these days. The main criteria though for me is that the monitor has to look rather good :o (although I can look past the physical appearance for whats on the inside ) and I'd like an input for a games console so maybe DVI and HDMI or 2x HDMI.

Would appreciate any help on this, any links to hiddem gems or just good bargains etc. I'm a bit meh on 90% of what I've seen so far in my price range.

Oh and the monitor will be mostly used for gaming.

    :pac:

Text wise the 27" will look very blocky at 1080 be aware of that. TN panels not sure about owning IPS screens mostly i don't play FPS games so i have no comment on gaming lag associated with them. Other people may have advice on either for gaming?Personally i'd recommend a 24" for your needs.Maybe a decent 24"? I have a 27" 1440 panel and its not the huge leap i was expecting going from a 24" but that's just me:rolleyes:

    Yes and no...

to you know what anti-aliasing is? You can have a 800x600 resolution that "looks and feels" like 4k.

So 1080p on 27 inch does not have to be bad just because the pixels are bigger, you can change this if you want to with anti-aliasing.

yes, but doesn't mean its 'blocky'... fine tuning (settings) is the key.

I run 3 27" screens, they would not appear blocky at all and I sit pretty close to them.

Not a problem! I'll give you 210
    Seriously cool monitor tho!

I'm fully aware of the issues of 1080p with a larger screen, hence why I'm also including 24inchers, but there doesn't seem to be much quality wise out there.

How are these 144hz TN models?

    Expensive!

Here is a 120hz model, the 144hz model is 429
sterling on amazon and the exchange rate aint great!

Whats your graphics card/pc setup? No point getting these monitors if you cant drive the framerate to see the benefit of them?

I'd go over the 300 if it was seriously worth it but I'd need to hold off a few weeks. Currently have a 780ghz with an i7 4770k. Only built it last year. I meant to upgrade my monitor then but I ended up having to move up the country. Only started getting back into PC stuff in the last few week or two :pac:

That monitor looks good. I've heard great things about Benq. I'm open to ideas tbh, I don't know much about monitors hence why I've been rocking the same 1080p 21.5inch dell for the last 6 years :o

Edit - I basically don't know what I want haha. I just want a really nice monitor to finally complete my set up.

I havent used any 120 or 144hz monitors so cant advise, but Benq seem to mentioned quite a bit. But then i dont then to play CSGO or any competitive fast games like that. i have a 23" LG IPS (60hz) bought a couple of years ago. I like it, nice colour reproduction, decent viewing angles. And IPS panels seem to have gotten cheaper, picked it up for about €150. They may be a bit more expensive now due to the weakened Euro, may be worth while buying off a european site.

Not personally recommending pixmania, but an idea of what is out there

The full selection of 24" and over

Some prices reasonable.Dcullys one is in there for €393

Think I'll stick to 60hz and an IPS screen, not a big fps player. I'm strange in that I prefer my shooters on consoles.

Thanks for the information tho, been a big help! The look out continues

    24 vs 27 inch :pac:

I prefer the 27 inch because of more screensize :) mine has small bezels around it and looks really nice.
Screen quality is super sharp, its not IPS and not TN.. it's A-MVA

A-MVA, along with c-PVA, offer a much higher actual (not dynamic) contrast ratio than another LCD panel types, such as IPS. This is the technology's primary strength.

Modern MVA panels can offer wide viewing angles (second only to S-IPS technology), good black depth, good color reproduction and depth, and fast response times due to the use of RTC (Response Time Compensation) technologies.
When MVA panels are viewed off-perpendicular, colors will shift, but much less than for TN panels.

I'm on the lookout for a 24-27" monitor myself. Have you considered a Dell UltraSharp U2515H - works out around €340 from Hardwareversand? Very good reviews on Amazon. Semi-matt finish, IPS, 1440p, good quality build/stand, loads of connection options and Dell warranty. 25" with a thin bezel looks like a sweet spot, 27" could be a tad too large in some respects. Only 60Hz but this may not matter too much if you're not into FPS twitch gaming.

Good shout, bit on the pricy side but looks like a quality monitor, must check out a few reviews when I get home.

I like the slim bezel. Actually never heard of the brand before but had a brief look about last night and heard good things. I've got some thinking to do :pac:

Nope! The name hasn't rang any sort of bell haha.

That dell is amazing. I'm going to end up going about €100 over budget for a 1440p screen

Quick question on 1440p panels, how does 1080p content react?

I'm planning to hook up a ps4 to the monitor and given I have a gtx780, the majority of my gaming over the next year will be spent at 1080p (the witcher and the like) as I'd rather play at ultra settings.
