Limescale

    Very quick one folks..

I've recently moved into an apartment that seems to have a high level of limescale in the water - the kettle was caked in it as was the shower head - but even boiling the new kettle once leaves a visible film on the edges/spout. I've started using bottled water as a result :(

But I was wondering what effect this would have on the washer system in the car if any? Normally I'd just fill it up with tap water but am hesitant to do this now thinking of the same effect.

    Any thoughts?

I'd imagine it would cause issues if it's as bad as you say. Just buy pre mixed jugs of it in halfords or the likes. Shouldn't cost too much for 5 litres or so.

That'll work too :p I'll just fill a bottle from the big drums we have dotted around the office so.

    Cheers guys!

Or add a cup of white vinegar in washer bottle, it'll sort the limescale out.
You can also add it to the washing machine to sort out the water issue there too.

I heard about the vinegar before. Not sure if its bad for the wipers though.

Vinegar is actually an acid. I would avoid it in a car (apart from battery of course).

As mentioned - get pre-mixed stuff - it's cheap and does exactly what says on the tin.

The only issue I have ever had with vinegar is that in a high concentration it actually made the windscreen too clean so the wipers started squeaking (besides the smell lol).

Why not use rain water. I have been using it for the past 15 years as our tap water has lots of lime in it. It never caused any problems.
