Anybody here know much about the 2.0 diesel Volvo C30. I had a 1.8 petrol before and found it a bit slow and very thirsty. I'm told that the 2.0 d is the pick of the engines for this car in terms of economy/ performance?

The one I'm interested in is a 07 so I'd get caught with the old rip off tax system but I don't mind this so much as this engine is so rare in Ireland.

I'm currently driving an 08 2.0D C30. The engine puts out around 135/140 bhp if I remember correctly. Has good enough pull when overtaking.

MPG: getting high thirties for mixed driving. Mid forties on the motorway in sixth @120km/h.

That engine is built by PSA. It's found in various other cars such as Ford, Citroen and Peugeot.

Thanks. I meant that it is rare in that particular car, I remember reading on here that there were only about a dozen or so 2.0 diesel C30's sold in Ireland in 07.

the 2.0 engine is a better choice than the 1.6 that the usually come with

Thanks. You reckon it's worth the extra tax?

Yes, plenty of power in it for overtaking and similar mpg to the 1.6d.

the 1.6 engine is awful unreliable its a bad Peugeot engine that's also fitted to a focus and many Peugeot and Citroens, nice car to drive but tax is a pain

I had a 1.6 petrol C30 purchased back in January 07. I remember if I'd wanted a diesel one at the time it was going to be a 6 month+ wait (or something similar) so I opted for the 1.6 petrol. Big regret! It absolutely drank petrol! Lovely car though. Had I gone for a diesel variant I would have kept it a lot longer. Off loaded it to a young fella who thought he was getting a bargain. Doubt he had much disposable income left after that purchase!

Not necessarily. There was also a 2.0 D4 with a 5 cylinder sold too built to end of 2010. It's basically a 2.4 D5 that's lost 400cc or so. Very torquey throughout the rev range which is unusual for a diesel. Easy maps to 220 bhp. Worth checking if it's that engine or the 2.0 four cylinder cos the five cylinder is a peach and feels very lively for what it is.

This unit is rare though and it's hard to see why Volvo put four different diesel engines (a 1.6, 2.0 (4 cylinder) , a 2.0 (5 cylinder) and a 2.4 (5 cylinder)) into a car that didn't sell in volumes.
