Bathroom tap issue

    Hi,

I am a real dope when it comes to DIY and plumbing, and I have an issue with my bathroom sink taps and would grateful for some advice.

I was cleaning the bathroom and while cleaning around the sink tap (see attached tap1.jpg) whatever I did the tap unit came loose, and the whole unit now can move from side to side, and even when pulled can start to come out a little from the sink (see attached tap2.jpg). It was rock solid up until now

My question is how serious a problem is this. Is this just a seal or a glue issues, i.e can I just apply some sealant or something to re-stick the tap unit to the sink, or is there something more fundamental broken. Would there be a problem in continuing to use the taps?

Thanks a million in advance for any replies.

Its just a loosened backing nut. You should be able to reach up underneath and tighten it. By a bit of wiggling of the nut and tap, you should be able to tighten it back up. Be careful not to loosen any water connections. Ideally you would need a special wrench for this. Bottom line is that it isn't a big job, but it is possible to make a bags of anything where there is water.

    Thanks for the quick response!

I'll take a look later this evening to see if there is anything I can easily tighten.

    Hi Wearb,

I had a feel under the sink yesterday evening (its a very small space), and couldn't find a loose nut per say, however I did find something that appeared to be broken. See the attached photo.

Does this looks like something has snapped to you?

    Thanks!

There does look to be some sort of bracket broken. Bring your photo in to some plumbing place, such as heat merchants or builders hardware and get their opinion.
