Physics and Instrumentation

Hi there. I am just about to finish 1st year common science in GMIT. I am enrolled in the Freshwater & Marine Biology course. However, I have found that I have much more of an interest in physics and maths as opposed to chemistry and biology.
I am very much thinking of changing to Physics and Instrumentation to continue on with.
I just want to know if anyone has done the P&I course? If so, is it a good pick in terms of job prospects? Do they put a lot of emphasis on the practical elements of the course?
I am a mature student and this is my second attempt at getting a degree and I just want to be as well informed on my decision as I can be.
    Thanks in advance :)
