Cancelled flight and compensation

I heard (hopefully mistakenly) that the airline with which I plan to travel in June to Austria may be planning a strike because of rostering issues.

I got a very good quote from 123.ie with excellent cover for a very reasonable rate which covers among other things, missed departures.

If my boyfriend and I do miss our flight because of industrial action, is the airline responsible for covering for our lost flights or will they also cover for accommodation?

Will the travel insurance cover the missed flight as well as lost time in the hotel?

What if we miss the whole holiday because of this?

Will we get compensation from the airline in question if the flight is only delayed a few days and not cancelled altogether?

If they have announced a strike for a certain date travel insurance booked after the announcement will not cover you as it's a known fact.

They just "threatened" to have a strike in the "Summer".

That's too vague to affect travel insurance policies. Cancellation cover will refund you any non-refundable expenses you incurred because you couldn't travel so for example if the airline gives you back your fare because they went on strike and you were able to cancel the hotel with no penalty, you'd have no basis for a claim of any kind. On the other hand if you had booked a package holiday, you'd probably be able to claim it all back.
