I use a mix of maize and soya in a 2:1 mix. Works well and they love it.

think your paying for the flaked maize which is usually round 400/ton.

I use a beef ration and i add soya to it normally. They are doing fine on it ,no scour and are content .No mad roaring when i started the weaning process.Just got me thinking lately so i started to get a few bags of calf starter and follow on ration and nuts and tried them on that. They were very slow to eat the calf ration compared to my own mix so i went back to my usual mix.I know every one has their own ideas on feeding calves but was wondering about the high prices and content of these rations.Molasses is in them all but what makes them special

Protein, well that's the excuse. Protein levels in calf ration could be anything from 16-18%. Beef ration is around 12-14% protein. They say that protein works out the dearest part of any ration.
