You'll have to be a bit more specific. Are you trying to get into first year in DCU in September through the CAO? Are you a Leaving Cert student or are your enrolled in a HEI at present?

    Hiya,

The late application date for 2015 closed on the 1st May. The change of mind date, if you're in the CAO system, is open from now till the 1st July. If you missed both application dates, you'll have to wait till November to apply for 2016. Hope the info helps.

You are best off ringing the secretary of the school your course is in. I know in Engineering they often accept late applications if the mature student quota isn't already over subscribed. Fastest and easiest way.

Are the mature applications not processed much earlier in the year than standard CAO applications?

The fact that you're applying for a mature entry complicates things further and I don't know too much about that. Get in touch with the office, only way to be sure.

Yeah, you should be ok, then. Do the change of mind through the CAO website. It doesn't make a difference where the other course is, as long as its on the CAO system. Type the institution or the course code for the course you want to do into one of the fields, and that'll tell you. Double check its on the system, coz If I were you, I'd write to the college (NOT CAO) you want to go to, to explain why you are changing your mind this late. Unless you have extenuating circumstances, they don't like late applications, as it makes you look like you're indecisive and it'll put you way down on their list of students who they are going to offer places to. At least that's what I was told by my career guidance counsellor. That's why the letter might help. Get some help crafting the letter. Be really enthusiastic and articulate, and trust me, any sort of extenuating circumstance will help. If you've applied for a SUSI grant, you're going to need to notify them as well. Get the ball rolling ASAP. Good luck. Hope you get your course.

No, that won't do. That'd be classed as a new application and the system is closed for this year. If you want to get in for the coming year, the only way, is to do it the way I advised you. If it still doesn't work, make your year as productive as possible, like working in a related field or doing a related course. Give yourself the best possible chance of getting in next year. The CAO system opens up for 2016 in November. But that's the worst case scenario. Follow my advice on my other post, and you might still have a chance of getting in this year.

Just make sure you write a really good letter to your new choice college. Whatever you say, don't say you seen it just recently and decided it was a better choice. it'll make you seem like you are apathetic and you didn't do your homework. All Admissions offices like to see students that are well informed about their choices for courses and colleges and why you want to be one of their students, which was the advice my career counsellor gave me.

You really need to sell yourself as to why you would be a good addition to your new choice of course. The late change of mind makes it hard to convey that. Hence why you need an extenuating circumstance. Chances are, the other course (the one you've changed your mind from) will have already contacted your referees, as I know for a fact, all colleges are in the process of doing interviews for new admissions and referees are already contacted before this stage. So you need to crack on and get that letter sent off by the end of the week.

I've just been through the application system for myself, so I have a website that gives you tips on interview questions and also has other links for other stuff that is college application related. Its really orientated for American colleges, but it doesn't matter because my career guidance counsellor gave me the link. I found it a huge help to prepare for interviews. You might find some stuff that helps your situation.

Here's another alternative to consider: Take a look at the college website you want to go to, and see if they do transfers. In which case, you'll have to start your original choice (should you be accepted) and apply to the course to transfer. Transfer fees will apply and you'll complicate matters, if you've applied for the SUSI grant. If you get accepted to your original choice, you have to seriously consider it, because it'll look bad to your new course. If under any doubt, phone your new college choice about their transfer policy and see can you transfer from one course to another. Some colleges differ from others on this policy, so you'd have to have a chat with them before deciding on this.

Let me know, if you want the link for college applications and how you get on.
