Ok. Bit of an on going problem. Got Gas boiler replaced 18 months ago. now have a Vitodens 100. Problem is that two of the 5 downstairs radiators only get very slightly warm and as a result, the downstairs of the house is cold. They have been bled etc but no improvement.

new boiler Installer says there is nothing he can do about it. He says the problem is that when the house was extended almost 10 years ago, they 'fed the radiator to the extension off the existing system and did not run new piping to the extension' and hence the water cannot get to the radiator in the extension and the adjoining one in the kitchen.

Find it difficult to accept this explanation as:

Extension is only 4x4m. Upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs radiators are fine.
Had no problem with the old boiler heating these radiators for over 8 years.
Neighbours with same extension had no problems with their heating?

Installer has been out a few times and 'balanced the system'. All radiators worked perfectly for a couple of weeks after he was out on one occasion then did not work after that. He is now not returning my calls.

Could the gas installers explanation be plausible? Any suggestions on how to amend the problem?. Please? Young children so really cannot have a cold house! Many thanks in advance.

Yes what he's saying is totally plausible except for the fact that they used to heat fine with the old boiler. Was the system powerflushed before the new boiler was installed?

there is awfull trouble when extensions go onto houses and lads pull half inch off half inch, but if your worked on the old system it should work on the new boiler!
did the system get a flush?try turning the balancing valve on the coil down

Many thanks. Not sure if the system was flushed - or if the installers will tell me if it was - prob not. Is there anything I can do to rectify the situation at this stage?

How long did the boiler install take?

God, can't be sure but think it was only a day from what I remember.

Probably wasn't flushed so. How much did it cost?

Best part of 2.5-3,000 from what I can remember. Got a new radiator in bathroom also.

Is powerful flushing standard practice when installing a new boiler?

Really peed off - upgraded my boiler and now have A cold downstairs in my house!!

Can't understand how it worked with old boiler and not with new. Also the fact that it worked for a few days after installer fiddled with it.

I still feel it has nothing to do with the extension. Just looking at the pressure, when the heating is on, the pressure is only 0.25 is this correct? Seems very low.

Yes powerflushing is an absolute must when fitting a new gas boiler. The pressure should be 1.25 when cold and between 1.5 - 2 when hot.
It's a good boiler installed badly. I'd say your installer just doesn't know how to balance the rads properly.

well, after nearly 2 years of installer coming back and now not returning my calls, a plumer that was here during the week quoting for taking out my shower had the problem solved in 2min! the Throttling valve (?) was fully open and also the by-pass valve was fully closed. also was air in the system. My new plumber also balanced the system. He was just wonderful!!!

Glad i did not go with digging up the floors to replace the pipework for the extension or put in the extra pump original installer was encouraging.he charged over €3000 for installing this system and could not get the system working correctly! a well established gas boiler installer in S.Dublin!

dont know myself with heat in the house - hot radiators and much hotter water!

Seeing that he is not responding to my calls, Wish the installer had a Facebook page so that I could share my good news with him and his potential customers!
