I'm 28 and soon to be doing my test. I plan on buying a car once I pass. I have around €2000-€2500 to spend at most and I'm looking to buy anything up to a 1.4 (petrol or diesel) to keep both tax and insurance down. I'm in Dublin and I won't be using it for work or commuting, just for general use. I don't want anything too small so I'm staying away from Polos, 206s, older Fiestas, Micras etc. and I want something safe and reliable.

What I've considered so far (all around 03/04):
    • Toyota Corolla 1.4 Hatchback [e.g. this, this]
    • Skoda Fabia 1.2 [e.g. this, this]
    • Seat Ibiza/Leon/Cordoba 1.2 [e.g. this]
    • Ford Fiesta 1.2 [e.g. this]
    • Golf 1.4 [e.g. this]
Are there any clear winners here I should focus on or anything other suggestions I could consider?
