Grimey should have done what Homer does, just go in everyday and do it really half-assed. Then he would be the one with a dream house, two cars, a beautiful wife and lobsters for dinner.

Classic Simpsons episode and back when the writers gave a **** at what they churned out. It's sad to see what has become of it today.

    'By those who loved him'?

He had nobody. That was the point.

He was bitter, understandably so and deserved a chance at happiness.

    And such great social commentary/satire.

The Frank Grimes episode made some brilliant points. While hilarious, it's actually quite depressing when you think about how unfair on some people life can be; such a tragic character. A particular moment in it when it was entirely serious, was really powerful:

"I'm saying you're what's wrong with America, Simpson. You coast through life, you do as little as possible, and you leech off of decent, hardworking people like me. Heh, if you lived in any other country in the world, you'd have starved to death long ago. You're a fraud, a total fraud!"

    /slams door

    /comes back briefly

    "It was nice meeting you!"

    Tragicomedy at its best.

Really good analysis of when, why and in what ways The Simpsons changed from one of the most insightful, culturally significant and consistently hilarious pop culture texts of all time into the hot mess it is now. Bit of a long read but a pretty good way to while away a Sunday afternoon.

Homey stole Grimey's monogrammed pencils, he basically drove him to suicide

I always thought this was the episode where the rot set in. The plotlines became increasingly absurd afterward. It was as if the writers were highlighting the dead end the show was already heading towards.

Very very occasionally (I'm talking every few years) there can still be the odd good one. The Portlandia episode (2012) was brilliant I thought. The one where the school is split into two single-sex schools so Lisa disguises herself as a boy to attend their maths class... can't believe how good that is for a 2006 episode.
    But yes, mostly terrible.
