    Hi,

A friend of mine asked me to try and make a 3d generated model from a pencil sketch. My options are using something like solidworks or google sketchup.

Just wondering is there a faster method that does all the work?

    What's the sketch of?

The sketch is of a bird standing on the stump of a tree. The angle is of its side profile so you can see the wing detail and feet.

Blender is a free 3D tool, but there's no magic button to convert.

Cheers I might check out Blender out of curiosity. I was really hoping for that magic button!

Blender is great, you can import the image and trace over the profile but you have to make it 3D all by yourself.
If you have both front and side views this would be a lot easier.

Also Blender's learning curve is pretty steep. I love it but it's a time investment.

Cheers guys I appreciate the help and feedback. I will stick with solidworks for this project but Blender looks really interesting so I will try it out the next few weeks. Thanks again.
