Length of time between assault and statement?

There was an incident at my wedding where a few of my guests ended up being assaulted by a person who was not originally invited to the reception but had been invited in by my father at the end of the night. We know this person so it wasn't a stranger.

The garda were called and statements were taken from most of the people involved. One of my groomsmen just rang me to tell me he has to go and give a statement on Tuesday night. It's been nearly 5 months since the incident?

If this were to go to court and charges are brought against the alleged offender would the length of time between the incident and the statement be brought up as a potential problem by the defence if my groomsmen were called as a witness?

    Thanks in advance.

Not really. Inordinate delay would be 18 months or so.

    The guards are busy.
