First we had the eejits breaking the statue , now we have a man accused of being a pedo because he was taking a selfie and a woman thought he was taking a picture of her children, and outed him on FB.

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2015/05/08/mans-first-selfie-could-also-be-his-last-after-woman-mistakes-his-photo-for-something-else/

Are you obsessed with taking pictures of yourself?
What is the most extreme lengths you have gone to to snap a shot of you epic life?
Are you a pedo who takes pictures of children pretending to take selfies?
Has anything similar ever happened to you?

My answer would be No to all questions. I don't take selfies. I have no interest in them.

I saw a very interesting female targeted selfie device once, Think it would need a light on it though.

    Is there a poll?

My phone doesn't have a camera. I realised a long time ago that I'm not cool so don't really go in for the selfie things.

Incidently there should be jail time for People accusing other people over social media of crimes. Without foundation and blatantly not true.

My house came with a mirror, so I just spend about an hour staring at myself every morning.

I was on a train last night and a big gurrier said 'give it a bleedin rest mate' to a fellow sitting across from him who was taking selfies. The ponce then sheepishly put away his phone.

Not a selfie situation, but I've found myself in a similar awkward position.

A good few years ago and my 5 year old daughter was playing in one of those kid gyms, think it was one near the NCT centre in Limerick.

I was watching my daughter up on a mesh highway where she could climb and jump around a cushioned obstacle course.

A woman besides me made some muffled comment, I looked at her and she looked up towards the one other child playing alongside my daughter. She looked agitated and had a scowl on her face as she looked to me and back up towards the other kid a couple of times. It took me a few seconds to figure out what the daft bat was on about.

I had taken no interest in her child I was only interested in my own child.

It turns out her child had a dress on and her knickers were visible.

Suddenly I was 2 parts mortified and 8 parts raging. What to do? She obviously thought I was a pedo. Walk away and I look like she was right. Stay, and I'm the guy looking up a kids dress. FFS!.

After a couple of more dirty looks she calls her child away. I'm still raging and then I see her talking to who I presume was her husband across the other side of the gym. I was tempted to go over to her and ball her out of it, but sense kicked in and left them as they exited. 10 seconds later and my wife walks up to me. And I was just thinking, how dare you leave me :D

Funny when I look back on it, but a little part of me is still sorry I didn't confront her.

Especially paedophilia, accusations like that could ruin somebody (a mans) life

I wonder will any further action be taken against her.

The mother of the child posted a warning on Facebook to other parents to be vigilant after the incident saying “I am one hundred and ten percent positive” that the strangers were “predators.”
The mum said she was certain the two were, “child snatchers/paedophiles/perverts/abductors whatever the hell you wanna call them.”
“Please mind your babies. This kind of stuff is on everyone's doorstep and is becoming far too common,” she warned.

Not a selfie as such. A few weeks ago, I was out for a run when I realised two, teen girls were pointing their cameras on their phones at me as I ran in their direction. In the first place I didn't want to stop running, so kept going, but If I did stop, I would be the one who could come off looking like a creep.

I am almost s!ht sick of people & their cameras. Out cycling recently one tourist elbowed the man with the camera ; who then stepped out onto the road with his camera aimed right at me as I cycled toward them.

I cannot run right now with my back ; I went walking recently and ended up trapping a damn nerve as one stride went longer than I can push it. I don't need eegits with their cameras stepping out into the road as I cycle just to point their camera at me!
Stopped to respond to a text-message recently on another cycle & became the centre of a photo as a few gathered around me & my bike for a photo without even so much as asking.

On another note: the amount of times I've seen young teens look like they've the weight of the world on their shoulders. Suddenly pull out their camera; throw picture up online leaving everyone think they're happy, only to return looking miserable again waiting on the replies and comments to pour in.
This new generation who seek, actively seek acceptance via online mediums to their pictures etc is worrying to an extent.

Getting a real dislike for cameras so I am,

I lose a little respect for people who frequently take pictures of themselves for no particular reason. Twice as much if pouting is involved, and double that again if there's a selfie stick involved. Think about something or someone else for a while, it'll do you good.

Considering all the data centres we have now to cope with the billions of photos and videos uploaded online and to clouds everyday, I for one think we should ban them! and introduce taxes with immediate effect for anyone wishing to pollute the planet further with their digital rubbish.

Idiots like this kunt are so easily fooled by fear mongering that they genuinely believe every other man is a rapist or paedophile out to get them lmao. I would say let them off but that would be condoning the possible destruction of innocent men's lives all because entitled morons think the world revolves around them. If you're going to accuse a person of being a rapist or paedophile, especially on social fuking media, you better be absolutely positive.

If my Facebook feed is to be believed there are either 30 odd predators actively trying to kidnap children every 2 weeks or else one really busy pair of kidnappers going up and down the country.

They don't seem to be very good at this because not one child has been abducted* since Facebook was invented to my knowledge.

*by people other than parents/family members

The woman should at the very least be reprimanded by the police for that.

Reprimanded and forced to put a retraction and apology on her page for a substantial amount of time.

Any time I see a white van I slash my child's face to make them look less attractive. It's the only way to keep them from harm.

Not really narcissistic so don't really feel the need to take selfies for other peoples validation due to my boring life or low self esteem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭Crooked Jack

Selfies (ugh, I even hate the word) are just the most obvious expression of a generation of people utterly obsessed with themselves.
Social media in general has had a lot to do with this. Far from it being an opportunity to connect with other people it's really just a place for people to build a digital monument to themselves. The worst thing about it is that it's so wired into certain aspects of modern life that you kind of have to have one, regardless of how you feel about it.

Everyone needs to wear Davy Lamp-style "dashcams" so that insane people can be reassured at any hour of the day or night that some guy in a shopping centre isn't a pervert. Brave new world, wha'?? :pac::pac::pac:

Happened to me coming home on the train one evening - I sat in a seat of 4, where the seats face each other. I took out my phone to text my wife that I was on the way home - so far so good.

Except a pretty normal looking middle aged (but obviously crazy) woman sitting opposite me was convinced I was taking photos of her. She asked me a few times not to take photos of her - all the time I was replying to texts. A tad embarassing but could have escalated easily. Lot of crazy people out there.

We have a generation of young people who are obsessed with themselves and what other people think of them. Living their life for "likes".

I read recently that years ago people would get mad if you read their diaries of their private life. Now they go mad if you don't "like" their statuses of their private life that they post online.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭Crooked Jack

Jesus! That's tragic. But at the same time you want to slap the head of her.
Also, Daily mail classy as ever.
