So I'm planning on making a CNC Laser cutter using stepper motors and arduino or raspberry pi to control it. I was wondering if anyone has any experience in doing this and had any advice. I'm also wondering what kinda of power laser would i need to cut through 3mm acrylic, i dont mind it having to go over a few times to go all the way through.

I will be encasing it all with protective laser filters and i do understand the risk associated with lasers. there will be fans and cooling so all im really looking to find out if what kind of power do i need for my laser.

visit the guys at tog.ie - they built one.
Banggood.com have a very cheap Laser Engraver kits from 100 euros up - not as powerful - but you could replace the laser maybe and use the motors, controllers and frame.
