What would you generally wear over a dress?

Hi I'm just curious as to how others manage this? If you were heading out and had to get a taxi or the bus even, would you wear waist length leather jacket? or something longer?. And would you normally wear tights also?. I know this is a difficult question to answer, especially without seeing any pictures. Found myself in a dilemma last weekend, with just a few minutes to get ready and while I had a nice dress, wasn't at all sure what to wear with it.

    Ideas and thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks

    S :)

I'd wear a cardigan or blazer or leather jacket. Depends on the style of the dress and the occasion. More formal events I'd wear a bolero/shrug or pashmina.

Again depending on the dress, the occasion and the time of year I may or may not wear tights.

Would only wear tights if the tights are black. Would never wear skin/flesh coloured tights. A blazer would nearly always work over a dress.

Whatever matches the dress. I'm not a great cardigan person so blazer or coat is more likely. I would always wear tights for more formal occasions and when it is cold. Skin coloured in summer and because I wear a lot of black usually black in winter. 40 den max for going out.

I always wear tights with dresses - unless I'm on holidays somewhere warm or casual. For me, tights are an important part of dressing. I know this could be perceived as old-fashioned by some, but I like the finish they add to a dress.

As for over a dress, I would always wear my coat going out. Just because I'm dressed up doesn't mean that I'm going to sacrifice warmth. If you have good, stylish coats in your wardrobe, then you can be confident that they will look good over a dress. If the dress is light, or sleeveless, I'd possibly wear a cardigan. I often have a scarf in my bag that I double up as a wrap too, if needed.
