Anyone hear of a church in Rome where the original cross & thorns of Christ are held??

Any recommendations for Rome other than the normal Vatican etc??

    Thanks 😀

    Palatine Hill
    Pantheon
    Borgia gardens
    Colosseum

there's two tours of the vatican catacombs. one you rock up and pay, see JP2's tomb on this one. There's another, the scavi, that you have to book in advance, and not everyone is accommodated.

Don't know the church you are referring to, sorry :(

I was in Rome a few years back. I did the main touristy attractions like the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps etc. but I would recommend getting a day/3 day pass metro ticket and stop off at different spots that aren't the main touristy areas. It's a great chance to get away from the real hustle and bustle. Metros come every few minutes so if you don't like the look of a certain stop, just hop straight back on. I'd also recommend a general walk about the place; it really is beautiful to just wonder around. Hope this helps.

What's putting you off the Vatican? Amazing place. The museums are incredible but the crowds are mental so book in advance. This coming from someone with very little artistic appreciation.

Plenty to do in Rome. Pantheon worth seeing and I loved the Collosseum but again book in advance and pay extra for guided tour. You get to see bits that you wouldn't without a guide.

Don't think there is such a church unless you're thinking of St. Peter in Chains which has a few things related to Peter and possibly Jesus. Loads of beautiful churches in Rome so maybe one has crown of thorns.

Oh, and the food. Excellent everywhere we went and surprisingly inexpensive. Only meal I had there in three or four days I didn't love was burger in an Irish bar to watch football and have a pint after lots of walking.

Trevi Fountain was closed for repairs when I was there at New Year. Not sure if open again yet.

I think you are referring to Basilica di Santa Croce. It is one of 7 Pilgrim Churches in Rome. Just found a walk with details here. You can read this for some info also.

    Hope that helps.
