There are a raft of lx special editions with extras.
Pretty sure UK model 1.4 were pure basic.
    Can you post a link?

There was a Connection pack available on the Focus back then. It was about €500 extra but included about €1500 worth of equipment.

The LX Connection added 16" alloy wheels, front fog lights, front arm rest, rear electric windows, quick clear windscreen, keyless entry/start and bluetooth.

Zetec Connection added 17" alloy wheels, rain sensing wipers, dusk sensing headlights, climate controlled air conditioning and auto dipping rear view mirror.

If your looking at one of these special editions make sure the keyless system is working properly as it can be troublesome and as a result drain the battery.

I have one of these cars. All the extras are great but it is a TERRIBLY slow car. Absolutely no poke in it at all. It is also very hard on juice. The engine just isn't powerful enough for the size of the car.

If you are doing a lot of driving, I would probably go for something different.

Don't own one but have heard the same, the 1.4 petrol lacks poke and go about it.

To be fair to my one, I have put almost 290,000 km on it and it hasn't missed a beat. I keep it regularly serviced and it hasn't given me any problems.

I love it. I have heard people say they give bother but mine is working fine. It's great when your hands are full of stuff, you don't have to go digging for your keys in your pocket.

If it's a 07, you will want to find out if the timing belt was done. I imagine it will be around that stage in it's life.

i used to have a 98 escort 1.4petrol which i would assume would be very similar engine wise. it was doing 32MPG.
With the cat removed it actually became a nippy car. some difference with and without the cat

Just been to a garage and had two 07 focus. One saloon and one hatch, hatch had 17 inch wheels, can someone explain the pro and cons of 17 over 16? Car I have for weekend is a hatch with 16 inch,,,

    Pros: looks nicer

    Cons:
    More expensive to replace
    Tyres more expensive
    Makes the ride harder
    More likely to damage wheel/tyre

The 17" tyres fitted to the Focus and Volvo S40/V50 are an odd size too meaning choices are limited and they tend to be a little more expensive. On the plus side they look better.

just an update,, borrowed a 05 1.4 petrol car over weekend and did 443 km over 2 days. mileage worked out at 40 miles per gallon. also priced 17 inch tyres and was quoted 125 euro a corner,,, found it a lovely comfortable car to drive but not very quick to move off junctions etc,,, but not for me.. thanks for all the input

If youre getting a reasonably small engined petrol focus, then a 1.6 TIVCT is the one to go for.

do they have a bit of go? focus was very comfortable compared to fiesta...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Relatively speaking, yes.

A 1.4 Corolla or i30 will be a lot nippier than the 1.4 focus as well and will be easy enough to find.

have not driven the corolla from 02 to 07.... will look out for one and see what it drives like

A 06 or 07 Corolla hatchback in Luna trim would be a good choice also.
