Dealership used prices - any negotiation lately?

Just wondering what kind of reductions, if any, people have been able to negotiate buying used from a main dealer lately?

I'm looking at an early 2014 car for 24k and the best they could do for me was 23.5k cash sale, and they wouldn't budge. I've walked away for now. They've had the car for 3 months along with a few similar spec/price ones of the same model but the salesman really didn't seem the least bit interested in selling it to me at all.

I would of thought that with no trade in they would have grabbed the hand off you for €23k, that's the way it was in the past, easily got atleast 10% off on every car I have bought for cash. When there's no trade in their profit is crystal clear there and then, no risky trade in to take.

How does their car @ €24k advertised price compare to similar cars in other dealers?

A month or two ago it would have been one of the more reasonably priced ones (I've had my eye on it for a while!) however in the last couple of weeks some of the other main dealers have reduced their prices making this one of the more expensive ones out there now. A 151 model is circa 27k, 152 a grand or so more.

Just find one in the right spec/colour for the right money from a reputable dealer.
If they've had it a few months then it could be costing the garage too much, and you can't blame the salesman for not falling over himself to make a loss.
If the car is nothing special then why pay over the odds. 2 things might happen: someone will pay what they want for it, or they will Eventually sell it at a loss.

If the car is of better spec, local reg plate, lower mileage, better colour etc than the other cheaper ones, or the garage have an excellent reputation then you have to weigh up if that adds value to you and makes it worth the bit extra

Figure if they're not miles out, then make an offer. Not a general chat offer but an "I've got the money ready, I like the car, talk to the garage owner" type offer. In person.

Finding the same thing with a few different garages I've visited. No haggling whatsoever. Apparently they're shifting second hand cars no problem
