Strange requirement in job advert

Maybe I'm expecting too much but saw these 2 "requirements" in a job advertised today...its a salaried position so I assume no overtime.
    • Should expect to be regularly available for late evening, early morning and weekend maintenance windows
    • Should expect to be available after hours at short notice and work from home when required

It wasn't a job I was interested anyway but personally that to me seems pretty off-putting to any potential candidate...almost reads like give up your life cause we expect you available 24/7.

Would you apply for a job with that specified ? I mean fair enough if a job required weekend or evening work but this seems like very adhoc short notice expectation that you will be available to work at all times.

I'd apply if otherwise interested and see what the situation if there is a rota for short notice work all well and good. Otherwise no.

Sound like they are just being honest about the jobs requirements. Most "flexible" jobs require flexibility on the part of the employee, with very little flexibility in the other direction. I have lost count of the number of time I have seen ads like Deli Assistant minimum 4 years experience, should have experience leading a team €8.65 p/h 3hr * 4 days

Maybe they are being a bit too honest but I guess better to set the expectations up front than someone take on the job and then be surprised..

When I saw it, it actually reminded me of this :D

Just because it's salaried doesn't mean there isn't overtime. Most people I know do overtime and are on salaries.

Tbh it sounds like you'd have to be working in a global environment which may lead to early (Asia) calls or evening (US) ones.

It does depend on the role but I'm sometimes expected to do them & there wouldn't be a huge amount of notice (a meeting request the day before usually). Although generally you can spot it coming & plan around. I think it's good that they're laying it out that it could be required.

The job description for my role said that there could be up to 70% travel during the year. I'd say there's about 25% realistically but they set the bar high so that if that did go up, they did inform me.

Looks like your typical IT maintenance and support team work. When some thing like a bank's ATM system goes down you would not expect them to go: Gee it will do tomorrow 'cause everyone is gone home... you would?

I would expect that not only is there OT but there is also a Picket allowance for being on call plus additional time of if they are called out during the weekend. These are usually highly skilled individuals and if you don't pay them someone else while.
